On 8th September ACE Communities First funded an induction day for all 116 Year 7 pupils to go to Glamorgan Cricket Club at the SWALEC. The aim was to bring all the pupils together in a fun and inspiring environment to help them settle into their new school and make new friends. A range of activities were facilitated by coaches from the Cricket Club and designed to give the pupils a different learning experience and to promote physical literacy, numeracy and well-being.
As an extra treat there was a test match playing and some pupils were chosen to form a guard of honour. All pupils also had an opportunity to play cricket on the field!
Some pupils’ comments were:
“This trip was good because we learnt new things about school.”
“I thought today was really fun and educational. I met two new friends before we left and during the day the friendships grew!”
“I thought today was amazing. I met one new friend and my favourite part was when we played cricket and watched some of the players playing cricket.”
“Today was an amazing experience!!”
“Awesome.”
All pupils said they really enjoyed the day and that it was a great start to their new school.
