CAER Heritage and ACE – Big Dig Fun Day – Sat 27th June

Big Dig

at Trelai Park, next to Cardiff West High School.

CAER aims to create a space where local heritage and local people come together. We open up opportunities for community members to join in with academic/heritage activities such as excavations, conservation work and education outreach.

Each year the CAER Heritage has an archaeological ‘Big Dig’ in the local area. Once again, this  year’s dig is being held in Trelai Park, next to Cardiff West High School. Alongside this dig, CAER Heritage and Action in Caerau and Ely hold a ‘Big Dig Open Day’ where the whole community are invited to come, learn and take part in various activities.

Many of the activities are supported by the following organisations:
Save The Children, Cardiff University, Ely and Caerau Learning Partnership Board, and Ely & Caerau Schools Partnership.

This year, pupils from 6 local primary schools have helped to plan activities for the fun day – please come along and support them! They will also be doing a litter pick in Trelai park the day before the fun day.

Watch out for up and coming information on the Open Day events and activities.

We Need Your Help! - Volunteers needed

Open Day Events – Sat 27th June
We will be hosting a number of community and archaeological activities, including talks, arts and crafts, face painting, and much more. Do you have time to help? If you do, please contact:

Big Dig – 8th June – 3rd July
Each year we have a host of volunteers who help up with the archaeological dig in Trelai Park. It is a Bronze Age settlement, currently understood as the oldest known house in Cardiff. If you are interested in helping with excavation work, as well as talking to archaeologists from Cardiff University, please contact: Tom – HicksTD3@cardiff.ac.uk.
